Hi Friend,
I want to share something with you today that I see happen again and again in my coaching practice.
Someone comes to me feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and frustrated. They've tried diets. They've read the books. They've made big dramatic changes that lasted a week before life got in the way. And they're starting to wonder if feeling better is even possible for them anymore.
And then something shifts.
Not because they overhauled everything overnight. Not because they found some perfect meal plan or followed a strict set of rules. But because they started doing a few very small things — consistently — and their body responded.
Here are 5 of the small habits that have made the biggest difference for the women I work with:
1. Starting every morning with a large glass of water. Before coffee. Before breakfast. Before anything else. After a full night without fluids, your body wakes up mildly dehydrated — and even mild dehydration affects your energy, your concentration, and your digestion. This one habit, done every single morning, sets the tone for the whole day. Add a squeeze of lemon for an extra boost of vitamin C and digestive support.
2. Building every meal around plants and protein. Not counting macros. Not weighing food. Simply asking — where is my plant-based protein in this meal? Lentils, chickpeas, black beans, edamame, tofu, tempeh, pumpkin seeds, quinoa. Adding a source of plant protein to every meal keeps blood sugar stable, energy steady, and hunger manageable — without any complicated rules.
3. Eating something within an hour of waking up. So many women over 50 skip breakfast or delay it for hours. But your body has been fasting all night, and it needs fuel to start functioning well. A simple breakfast with whole food plant-based protein and fiber — like oats with hemp seeds and berries, or wholegrain toast with avocado and pumpkin seeds — can completely change how you feel by mid-morning.
4. Adding one extra serving of leafy greens every day. Just one. Spinach in a smoothie. Kale stirred into soup. Rocket on the side of whatever you're already eating. Leafy greens are packed with iron, magnesium, folate, and fiber — nutrients that directly support energy, digestion, and how your body functions day to day. One extra serving a day adds up to seven by the end of the week. That's significant.
5. Pausing before reaching for something sweet or processed. Not to deprive yourself — but simply to ask: am I actually hungry? When did I last eat a proper meal? Am I thirsty? Am I tired or stressed? Sometimes the answer is yes, you genuinely need a snack — and a piece of fruit with nut butter or a small handful of mixed nuts is a wonderful choice. But often the pause alone is enough to redirect toward something more nourishing.
None of these habits are complicated. None of them require hours in the kitchen or a complete lifestyle overhaul.
But stacked together, done consistently over 30 days — they add up to something real. More energy in the morning. Steadier energy through the afternoon. Better digestion. Clearer thinking. A growing sense of confidence that you actually know how to nourish yourself.
That is available to you. Starting this week. With just one of these habits.
Pick the one that feels most doable right now. Just one. And commit to it for the next two weeks.
Then notice how it feels to follow through. 🌿
Warmly,
Sonia
